I've admittedly held off on booking any new engagements this far into the wake of CoronaVirus. Short-haul touring has taken on a whole new set of logistics, and the business relationships I established with landmark, historic venues disappeared in the space of a virus infection. To add insult to injury, the Cutler Becket's of the big label empires are doing everything they can to weed out the privateers (Indie artists). How many A-list bands have called it quits in favor of 9 to 5 jobs, and what does that tell you about live music's bleak outlook? Screw the media giants, I say. We've ever always plied our trade on the fringes of society as it is & have no aspirations of becoming "that famous". Not in that way.
Speaking of musical landscapes... I'll be spending the next few months visiting clubs like Hi-Fi, Radio-radio, Mouse Trap, Melody Inn, Healer, and any other intimate setting that's bustling with music enthusiasts. The folks I expect to round out my crew with will likely not be Phd degreed Julliards or Berkley grads. Just ordinary Janes & Joes. I want people with an unfaltering passion for music, an otherwise "ordinary" disposition (well, ordinary'ish... I'm not normal either), and the determination to learn your instruments over time. And to add to the fun, we'll be doing Shakespearean skits before every set once we start playing out.
But for right now, I just need to give audience to the masses. Come to me, my children & bask in the suspense of epic tales. I have many.
