Debaucherous is hosting "Open Auditions" for the following. Note that all positions must have their own transportation, be willing to wear a costume during performances or public relations events & be gainfully employed in some form of daytime job. (Retired is cool too). We're all adults here, have plenty of daytime work and/or family responsibilities & realize that flexibility on practice schedules is essential. We'll do our best to accomodate you. Booked performance engagements will on the other hand be peer reviewed by all members to ensure there aren't any conflicts & then booked a month ahead of time. We strongly encourage you to do everything you can to be at those gigs. And if something comes up where you absolutely can't make it (i.e. car accident, visit to the ER, or got mugged for example.), please have someone let us know as soon as you can so we can pull in a stand-by artist. Aside from that, we're a very laid-back, fun focused group of misfits you're going to love.
Drummer/Percussionist - Must have own kit of drums, drum mics, & hard cases. Good enough meter to stay with a click track for recording (if we must use one. The preference is not to.), but forgiving enough to breathe with live band performances. Because being a drummer is so much like being an Olymic athlete, we envision your "Pirate Costume" as being similar to that of "Queequeg" in the 1956 John Huston film "Moby Dick", starring Gregory Peck. Or a Voodoo Houngan a la "Serpent and the Rainbow". We can discuss at the audition.
Rhythm Guitarist/Keyboards - This will be a tough position to fill. I need someone who's able to play with solid rhythm skills, can do occasional harmonized leads similar to Queensryche's ~ Operation Mindcrime, and switch instruments to/from keyboards when needed. Must be able to do backing & lead vocals. You can get by with one guitar if it has stop-bar tail piece. If it has a tremolo, you're going to need two guitars for alternate tunings. Another recommendation is a vacuum tube based amp. Mind you, I've seen a couple solid state (i.e. Randall, Marshall, or Boss Katana) amps that can sound pretty close to 12AX7 pre's. But tube amps have "the sound" the show needs for the most part. Kempers or Axe Effects are OK too, if you can afford em. We'll just see at sound check. You don't need a stack. A 1x12 combo, or head & 2x12 cab somewhere in the 25W - 50W range will do nicely. Keyboards just need the ability to do some 1980's synth stuff like Ozzy's "No rest for the Wicked", or occassionally piano. A plus is some convincing orchestral strings such as cello, violin or harp, but is completely optional. That shit costs money or I'd have one already. As far as costume goes, believe it or not, you're going to be some form of Nordic Viking. We'll explore some functional costume ideas so you're not sweat soaking your tunic or belt rashing your favorite axe with vambraces.
Bass Guitarist - We're pretty flexible on bass, save that your live show rig needs to be 300W RMS output or higher to compete with the drums. You should be comfortable playing multiple genres from Dave Ellefson or Rex Brown's heavy metal pick style to Flea's (RHCP) finger style or Bootsie Collins' funk-slap from Parliament." As far as Piratey attire, it's something we can discuss. Our last bass player was an eccentric Scot (god love him), but any derivation from the aforementioned Moby Dick will be fine. It just has to be something old world & indicative of the kind of bloke you'd expect to turn privateer.
Lead vocalist - This position is for an early to mid 50's woman with some workable vocal talent. And the most 'ideal" candidate would be someone who's had real-world experience as a madame or call-girl. Whether that be at a brothel or escort service it doesn't matter. If not the real deal, please be willing to do the research to understand the mindset of a sex trade worker. Through their work experiences, they've come to hate the men that tend to solicit them. The job often attracts the most lecherous, libidinous & heinous of the male species. That psychology will come in very handy as the crew of the Pearl Necklace are lawless, spirited, & imaginative "opportunistic salvage experts". Analytical, premeditated & calculating, and not the narrow minded pirates you've read in Treasure Island. We can be complicated and not to distant from the behavioral stereotypes of today. (There's a more detailed explanation I'll share at the audition. Plus I'm making the disclosure up front that "nobody in the crew will try to fuck you". Debaucherous doesn't condone dating from the office pool on or off the job. And that includes yours truly.) You must have the ability & willingness to work a crowd, to exude almost Shakespearean style acting in your performance & envelop the audience in your story. You're going to be "The Villain everyone loves to hate but secretly envies", so be prepared for that. You're domineering, ruthless, sometimes stoic, conniving, greedy, and fecitiously perverted. But outwardly you're sociable, charismatic & have a remarkable talent for persuation. You're the new "Captain of the Pearl Necklace" & yours truly simply retains rights as the ships primary share holder. Think Capt. Ahab & the Pequod. (He captained it, he didn't own it.) As far as equipment, you're more than welcome to use whatever dynamic mics we have on hand, but after Coronavirus's aftermath you'll probably want your own once we start making money. Your costume will of course be the most ostentatious & varied of the whole crew. It's representative of your position on the ship. Debaucherous will provide your first costume for you. And then if our success grows, we'll offset the cost of additional wardrobe pieces as you diversify. You are the story teller of the show, the leading actor, and the motivation for this libidinous ship of heathens. If you can bring other instrumental contributions to the show (i.e. acoustic guitar, flute, violin, lyre or etc) that's all the better, but not by any means required.
We'll have other positions up for grabs once we get a regular itenerary going, such as "Live Sound Engineer", lights, promotional materials sales, and security. But first things first... We're starting small & will only be doing 1hr opening spots with other more established regional artists. Or doing small, intimate gigs like artist spotlights and what have you to get our names out there.
